Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Capital of Greece, cradle of democracy, birthplace of
Western Civilization - Athens is a vibrant city where
old and new co-exist.The majestic Parthenon rises above
the city, its ancient glory still visible in the time-worn
stone, and the National Archaeological Museum holds
countless treasures from Athens' Golden Age. |
Thessaloniki, Greece
The second largest city in Greece and the capital of
Macedonia, Thessaloniki was named after Alexander the
Great's sister. Tour the modern city to see numerous
Byzantine Churches, the old city walls and the famous
archaeological museum housing priceless collections
from all over Macedonia. Recently the intact tomb of
Alexander's father Philip II was discovered in nearby
Vergina. Its treasures, along with many others, are
on display at the exceptional archaeological museum
of Vergina. |
Istanbul,
Turkey
As you approach Istanbul from the sea, the gra-ceful
minarets of countless mosques appear on the horizon
and the Islamic call to prayer car-ries over the water.
Istanbul's blend of East and West has resulted in some
of the most magni-ficent architecture in the world,
including Agia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. At the Topkapi
Museum, formerly Sultan's Palace, the treasures of the
Ottoman empire are on view. Bargain for your own treasures
in the Grand Bazaar. |
Kusadasi
(Ephessos), Turkey
A tour to nearby Ephessos should not be missed, for
here history truly comes to life. Walking towards the
ancient harbor, down a marble road rutted by the wheels
of countless chariots, you pass architectural masterpieces
like the Library of Celsus before arriving at the Great
Amphitheater where St. Paul was arrested and cast out
of the city. |
Santorini,
Greece
The island of Santorini is perhaps the most breathtaking
of all the Greek Islands. The town of Fira white-washed
houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering
boutiques cling to steep cliffs, accessible by cable-car
or mule. To the south is Akrotiri where recent Minoan
excavations support the theories that Santorini might
be the fabled lost continent of Atlantis. |
Heraklion
(Crete), Greece
Heraklion, the capital of Crete and its principal commercial
port is just three miles away from the fantastic ruins
of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 by Sir
Arthur Evans and partially reconstructed, the elaborate
Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King
Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture. The Archaeological
Museum in Heraklion displays many of the treasures found
during the excavations. |
Rhodes,
Greece
The beautiful "Island of Roses" has a rich
and varied history. On a hill above the charming town
of Lindos rises an ancient acropolis dedicated to the
goddess Athena. Below lies the bay of St. Paul, where
the apostle landed during his voyages. The crusading
Knights of St. John left the medieval city of Rhodes
behind when they were defeated by Sultan Suleyman the
Magnificent. The Ottoman Turks then occupied Rhodes
for almost 400 years leaving mosques, minarets and a
Turkish bath to mark their presence. |
Patmos,
Greece
This island is known as the site of the apocalyptic
Revelations of St. John the Divine, written here during
his exile from the Roman Empire. The cave where he lived
is near the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. The
Monastery of St. John, built on one of the island's
highest points, houses priceless icons and manuscripts
in its Treasury. |
Mykonos,
Greece
On Mykonos you will find beautiful beaches, chic boutiques,
and elegant nightclubs. Beneath its sophisticated surface,
lies a quite essential Greek island. Hundreds of tiny

and bask in the serenity of sunset over its picturesque
harbor. |

of the Caldera and pass through many traditional villages

Charms of Santorini
Boar / Motorcoach / Cable Car / Foot
Tour: SAN-005 / SAN-005 Child

name derives from Saint Irene, the island's patron saint.

lava. On the island, cultivated landscapes, contradicts
with the whitewashed villages and towns, which are perched
upon the cliffs edges. Leaving the ship by local tender
boat you will arrive to Athineos harbor to meet your
guide and motorcoach and commence your tour around the
island. You will first visit the Pyrgos village in the
southern part of the island to witness the daily life
of the villagers and have time at leisure. Returning

produce, due to the islands rich volcanic soil, well-known
and extremely tasty wines of Santorini. Proceed to the
spectacularly located Boutari Winery where you will

on the island. After a guided tour of the facility you

narrow streets of the capital to discover the excellent

Santorini Sailing & Volcano
Caique / Motorcoach
Tour: SAN-006 / SAN-006 Child
Duration: 3½ Hours
Enjoy a cruise around the active crater of Nea Kameni
islet. Sail along the peculiar formations of its volcanic
shores, where black lava rocks and white pumice are
combined beautifully with the red color of lava. Take
a walk to the top of the volcanic island where sulfur
is spewed into the air by one of the craters. Enjoy
this surreal landscape as your guide narrates the creation
and history of the volcano and the last eruption leading
to the destruction of the island of Santorini. The tidal
wave created by the eruption was of such an immense
magnitude, it destroyed the thriving city of Knossos
on the island of Crete. As your caique enters the narrows
of the two lava islets, Palea and Nea Kameni, note the
changing colors of the water from dark blue to sulfur
green. In the background, admire the breathtaking sight
of Fira Town with its white washed houses clinging precariously
on the rim of the Caldera. Take time to swim in the
warm waters heated by Hot Springs on the sea floor.
Sail to Athinios port, where your motorcoach will take
you to Fira Town, the island's capital where the tour
ends and you will have free time to walk around on your
own or shop. Later, use your tour ticket to ride the
mules or the cable car to descend to Skala, the pier
at the bottom of the cliff where ship's tenders will
be waiting to take you back to the ship.
TAKE NOTE
- Descending to Skala on mule back may be uncomfortable,
as the animals lean forward at a considerable angle
due to the very steep incline. The stepped way is
littered with animal droppings resulting in a strong
odor being noticeable during the entire descent.
- A strenuous uphill/downhill walk is involved to
reach the crater.
- We recommend light dress, comfortable enclosed
flat shoes, hat, sunglasses and bottled water.
- You may wear your swimwear under your clothes
or should you wish to change on board the caique,
please note you will be using the rest rooms for
changing. Do not forget your towel and sunscreen.

The Royal Tombs of Vergina

The tour begins by bus from Thessaloniki following the
National Road to reach the Royal Tombs of Vergina. The
small village where refuges from Asia Minor settled
down in 1923, became very famous due to the discovery
of the Royal Tombs by Professor and Archaeologist Andronicos.
It was known with the name Aigais, was the first capital
of Ancient Macedonia and was supposed to be the burial
place of all Macedonian Kings. The Ancient Macedonian
Tumulus has been completely excavated and for the preservation
of the Royal Tombs themselves a subterranean structure,
having the appearance of an earth mound, was built in
1993 to encase and protect the ancient monuments by
maintaining a constant temperature and humidity, both
inseparable for the preservation of the wall paintings.

bearing the founds of all 3 Tombs, one of them famous
as the Tomb of King Philip the II, Father of Alexander
the Great. Make your way inside the subterranean structure,

of the most important objects, which once belonged to
Philip II - the King's shield adorned with ivory and
gold, known as the King's gold- trimmed iron breast
plate, Gold Diadems of unparalleled craftsmanship, the
Golden Wreath of oak leaves, the gold plated collar
and the Silver Burial Ums. Listen carefully, as your
guide explains how inside the tomb of King Philip, a
Golden Chest was discovered, containing the King's bones,
washed with wine and wrapped in purple cloth. After
