Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Capital of Greece, cradle of democracy, birthplace of
Western Civilization - Athens is a vibrant city where
old and new co-exist.The majestic Parthenon rises above
the city, its ancient glory still visible in the time-worn
stone, and the National Archaeological Museum holds
countless treasures from Athens' Golden Age. |
Mykonos,
Greece
On Mykonos you will find beautiful beaches, chic boutiques,
and elegant nightclubs. Beneath its sophisticated surface,
lies a quite essential Greek island. Hundreds of tiny
cha-pels dot this blue and white-washed island with
its beautiful windmills. Find a table on the waterfront
and bask in the serenity of sunset over its picturesque
harbor. |
Kusadasi
(Ephessos), Turkey
A tour to nearby Ephessos should not be missed, for
here history truly comes to life. Walking towards the
ancient harbor, down a marble road rutted by the wheels
of countless chariots, you pass architectural masterpieces
like the Library of Celsus before arriving at the Great
Amphitheater where St. Paul was arrested and cast out
of the city. |
Patmos,
Greece
This island is known as the site of the apocalyptic
Revelations of St. John the Divine, written here during
his exile from the Roman Empire. The cave where he lived
is near the site of the Monastery of the Apocalypse. The
Monastery of St. John, built on one of the island's
highest points, houses priceless icons and manuscripts
in its Treasury. |
Rhodes,
Greece
The beautiful "Island of Roses" has a rich
and varied history. On a hill above the charming town
of Lindos rises an ancient acropolis dedicated to the
goddess Athena. Below lies the bay of St. Paul, where
the apostle landed during his voyages. The crusading
Knights of St. John left the medieval city of Rhodes
behind when they were defeated by Sultan Suleyman the
Magnificent. The Ottoman Turks then occupied Rhodes
for almost 400 years leaving mosques, minarets and a
Turkish bath to mark their presence. |
Heraklion
(Crete), Greece
Heraklion, the capital of Crete and its principal commercial
port is just three miles away from the fantastic ruins
of the Palace of Knossos. Discovered in 1899 by Sir
Arthur Evans and partially reconstructed, the elaborate
Palace is believed to be the mythical Labyrinth of King
Minos and the seat of ancient Minoan culture. The Archaeological
Museum in Heraklion displays many of the treasures found
during the excavations. |
Santorini,
Greece
The island of Santorini is perhaps the most breathtaking
of all the Greek Islands. The town of Fira white-washed
houses, narrow streets, open-air cafes and glittering
boutiques cling to steep cliffs, accessible by cable-car
or mule. To the south is Akrotiri where recent Minoan
excavations support the theories that Santorini might
be the fabled lost continent of Atlantis. |

Island Tour & Oia Village
Boat / Motorcoach / Cable Car / Foot
Tour: SAN-004 / SAN-004 Child
Duration: 3½
Sailing into the Caldera of Santorini is like floating
inside a giant open-air geological museum. Oia Village
is the crowning glory of peace and tranquility. Built
on the northern tip of the Caldera rim, it is here where
many artists have been inspired due to its magnificent
location. As you will see for yourself, it has "out
of this world" views of the Caldera, the island
itself, and many of the broken off islands surrounding
the Caldera and Aegean Sea. Enjoy a short trip by boat
to Athineos Harbor where you will meet up with your
motorcoach and guide. Drive uphill along the rocky sides
of the Caldera and pass through many traditional villages
in order to reach the listed settlement and unique village
of Oia, with its typically Cycladic architecture and
its houses perched on the cliffs edge like seagulls
poised for flight on this dramatic cliff-side. Accompanied
by your guide, walk through the village along cobble-stoned
streets marveling at the breathtaking panoramic views
and admiring the traditional architecture. Enjoy free
time on your own, where you may either wander through
the many art galleries available or perhaps relax over
a coffee. At the specified place and time, meet back
up with your guide and make your way to Fira, the capital
town of the island, built on the center of the Caldera
rim. Enjoy the town at your own leisure and return to
the small pier of Scala by cable car or mule, where
the vessel's tendering service awaits to take you back
to your ship.
TAKE NOTE
- This excursion will commence from Fira Town,
instead of Athenios harbor, in unfavorable weather
conditions.
Charms of Santorini
Boar / Motorcoach / Cable Car / Foot
Tour: SAN-005 / SAN-005 Child
Duration: 2½ Hours
Although officially called Thera, Santorini's popular
name derives from Saint Irene, the island's patron saint.
The waters in the "Caldera" are deep and dark,
and the island itself is no more than a crust of solidified
lava. On the island, cultivated landscapes, contradicts
with the whitewashed villages and towns, which are perched
upon the cliffs edges. Leaving the ship by local tender
boat you will arrive to Athineos harbor to meet your
guide and motorcoach and commence your tour around the
island. You will first visit the Pyrgos village in the
southern part of the island to witness the daily life
of the villagers and have time at leisure. Returning
to your coach you will pass through vineyards, which
produce, due to the islands rich volcanic soil, well-known
and extremely tasty wines of Santorini. Proceed to the
spectacularly located Boutari Winery where you will
gain an insight into how wine was traditionally produced
on the island. After a guided tour of the facility you
will sample some of the wines with local cheese and
crackers. Continuing your drive through picturesque
villages and fertile fields towards the center of the
island you will end your tour in front of the Prehistoric
Museum of Thera (open only in the morning) located in
the capital town of Fira. Wander around the quaint and
narrow streets of the capital to discover the excellent
selection of shops and art galleries. In your own time
walk to the cable car station in order to use your ticket
and travel to the tender pier, where the ship's tendering
service will be available for you to return to your
vessel.
TAKE NOTE
- Price does not include visit to any museum in
Fira town.
Santorini Sailing & Volcano
Caique / Motorcoach
Tour: SAN-006 / SAN-006 Child
Duration: 3½ Hours
Enjoy a cruise around the active crater of Nea Kameni
islet. Sail along the peculiar formations of its volcanic
shores, where black lava rocks and white pumice are
combined beautifully with the red color of lava. Take
a walk to the top of the volcanic island where sulfur
is spewed into the air by one of the craters. Enjoy
this surreal landscape as your guide narrates the creation
and history of the volcano and the last eruption leading
to the destruction of the island of Santorini. The tidal
wave created by the eruption was of such an immense
magnitude, it destroyed the thriving city of Knossos
on the island of Crete. As your caique enters the narrows
of the two lava islets, Palea and Nea Kameni, note the
changing colors of the water from dark blue to sulfur
green. In the background, admire the breathtaking sight
of Fira Town with its white washed houses clinging precariously
on the rim of the Caldera. Take time to swim in the
warm waters heated by Hot Springs on the sea floor.
Sail to Athinios port, where your motorcoach will take
you to Fira Town, the island's capital where the tour
ends and you will have free time to walk around on your
own or shop. Later, use your tour ticket to ride the
mules or the cable car to descend to Skala, the pier
at the bottom of the cliff where ship's tenders will
be waiting to take you back to the ship.
TAKE NOTE
- Descending to Skala on mule back may be uncomfortable,
as the animals lean forward at a considerable angle
due to the very steep incline. The stepped way is
littered with animal droppings resulting in a strong
odor being noticeable during the entire descent.
- A strenuous uphill/downhill walk is involved to
reach the crater.
- We recommend light dress, comfortable enclosed
flat shoes, hat, sunglasses and bottled water.
- You may wear your swimwear under your clothes
or should you wish to change on board the caique,
please note you will be using the rest rooms for
changing. Do not forget your towel and sunscreen.
